  1. At first, I thought I was looking at ‘colourised’ photos, and was amazed to see that they were paintings. Then I read in the main article that they were often taken from photos, or painted over photos, which might explain the fascinating detail. Important cultural memories indeed.

  2. Such a fascinating people…. Isn’t it interesting that modern sports teams have started ripping off their look and battle traditions for use on the field to intimidate opponents… I mean if they think Native Americans should feel grateful for the “nod” and are shocked when they aren’t, I wonder what these other indigenous peoples might think about such “compliments” and perhaps what THEIR legal take on these caricatures might be? Hmmm…. Am thinking response could be equally fierce….
