We knew it was going to get bad – it’s been coming for years, as long as I can remember. Bad has erupted. Bad as in evil. Bad as in inhumanity, prejudice, injustice, crazy verdicts, widespread violence, government surveillance/secrecy and now chaos. I see this and think of the control of our slave owners, now called corporations and colonial governments.
Our world today? It’s not pretty.
Not all USA companies “own” their employees like slaves but far too many workers are underpaid and overworked their entire worklife. I call this modern day slavery, not employment. Bosses and owners make thousands more dollars than the average worker which creates an inequality and an imbalance of power. Because of widespread greed of the upper class (1%), the middle class is disappearing.
Women do not earn as much as men? Indeed. That’s an example of injustice.
The minimum wage, which perpetuates a vicious cycle of poverty in America, that is another example of injustice.
Brown and black people are prosecuted and imprisoned and fill up the corporation prisons who make millions off their free labor while many white people do not get imprisoned for the same crime. That’s modern day slavery. Injustice in our courts, the hatred, intolerance and racism (and insanity) combine to make this world as chaotic as we have today. It has never been this bad.
My husband defines white privilege as cultural capital: those who impose their beliefs on others, hurting others in doing so, judging others, punishing others; they do so to impose their white privilege. It’s very visible now. Racism and sexism has never been so prominent. Violence is erupting across the globe.
Cultural theft is when museums collect our Indian bones and ceremonial items and stash them in drawers or put them out on display. Cultural theft was the Indian Adoption Projects and ARENA and the residential boarding schools in North America. They stole our culture by assimilating us.
Cultural theft happened when it was illegal to conduct ceremonies, when you could be imprisoned for going to sundance or sweatlodge. Finally the Religious Freedom Act passed in 1978 but prior to and for many years, our children lost these traditional ways of life.
Even adoption qualifies as something bad – since it hurts children and mothers, who then are dealing with lifelong separation which was often unnecessary but required/demanded by those in power…power exerted by social workers, governments, clergy, adoption industry executives, etc. Governments who conducted the sweep of Native children to remove them, assimilate them, erase their language and end treaty rights, this injustice is not acknowledged by many people. I have two books on the topic. Closed Adoption for Indian kids was used as effectively as any other genocide. Adoption was used as a form of human trafficking.
Right now, in my own sphere of people, I have watched as many create endless drama and chatter to attract attention to themselves, sucking energy out of me like a vortex. Finally, I have learned to protect myself. It took me awhile to see how they are zombies creating the chaos by refusing to get help to get well.
I have friends who are not energy vampires, who fill me with love and peace. Those friends are family to me. I have many brother and sisters seeing what I see, remarking on the utter chaos taking over.
The chaos was predicted by the Mayan and the Hopi, indigenous cultures who still exist. Now is not the time to sit idly by and watch. It’s time to protect yourself.
